This is Mystique. She was found in the neighborhood on November 2nd of 2007. She appears to be a Main Coon or a Main Coon mix.
We tried to place her in a no-kill shelter, but they were full and we did not want to take her to the county animal control center because they have to put down an animal after a certain time if it doesn't get adopted.
So we kept her separated for a day from our other babies until we could get her in to see out vet. He gave her an all clear on any communicable diseases so we brought her home and officially adopted her.
Mystique had a tough life before us. We thought she was two months old because of her size. The vet explained that her teeth showed that she was six months old. She was underweight and undersized.
The cartilage of her left ear was broken. (You can see it in the photo.) The tip of her tail was also broken and has a permanent kink in it. She has discoloration in the pupils of her eyes which could be damage caused by blunt trauma. She also has slight tremors occasionally which may indicate a neurological disorder which may be related to the blunt force trauma. I say "may" because the vet cannot determine without tests, some which are invasive.
Mystique is spoiled now and, like the rest of the pets, gets whatever she wants. She doesn't communicate as well as the other babies. The others have various ways of telling us if they want a treat, a snuggle, or outside (puppies). Probably because she had trouble the first six months or so of her life, but we are doing everything to help her forget those times.
Here she is on the kitty's bunk beds making herself quite at home.
